One of the fundamental principles of the Latin American Network of Environmental Public Ministry (REDEMPA) has always been raising good practices that could be shared among the Public Ministries which are part of REDEMPA, without major formalities or the need to involve bureaucratic issues in international relations.
Since its creation, one of the most frequently discussed, recurring and common issues has been the one related to deforestation and it has been realized that the geoprocessing tool (previously used in Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraguay) would be an ideal "good practice" to be shared among the members, since it would not only be effective, but also it would not depend on any agreement or other international bureaucratic instrument to be implemented.
Based on this, it was invested on the creation of a Working Group, from which arose a strong interest of three Public Ministries in implanting laboratories of geoprocessing (of the State of Pernambuco in Brazil, of Ecuador and of Peru)similar to those that exists in South Mato Grosso and Paraguay.
About the Public Ministry of Pernambuco, the laboratory was already installed a few years ago and its technicians have frequent contacts with the laboratory coordinator of Mato Grosso do Sul.
As for Peru and Ecuador, there was a technical visit to the Public Ministry of Mato Grosso do Sul, which occurred in July 2012.
Since then, Ecuador, with the support of Ecolex, has started searching resources to implement its laboratory, which was implemented in March 2014 in the province of SucumbÃos (Amazon region). This laboratory was created in the same way and with the same methodology of MP / MS. The prosecutor Luciano Furtado Loubet and ThaÃs Torres, together with INPE, were in charge of implementing and coordinating a two-day training that was extremely productive, where the main institutions of Ecuador on this topic were gathered.
In Peru, the Georeferential Satellite Monitoring Unit for Environmental Crimes of the Public Ministry of Peru was created with the collaboration of the REDEMPA, which since 2008 has established as one of the priorities the fight against deforestation and illegal deforestation, pointing out as one of the strategies to share successful experiences among the prosecutors.
